- Programa de Comunicación en Salud Infantil (COMSAIN)
COMSAIN is a national communication and behaviour change programme developed by the Honduran Secretariat of Health (SOH) and BASICS II in September 2000. The initiative targets mothers with low income levels in rural and peri-urban areas with memorable messages about how to improve their children's health and nutrition. Through a multi-channeled approach using radio and printed materials, this programme aims to give mothers the information and support they need to help their children survive and thrive.Specifically, the programme is driven by the need to enhance the knowledge and skills of mothers to prevent, manage, and seek appropriate treatment for childhood illnesses. - Centro de Documentación e Información en SIDA- Honduras (AIDS Documentation and Information Center)
A project conducted by the Honduran NGO, Fundación Fomento en Salud, (Health Care Promoting Foundation) acting in the area of sexual and reproductive health care, HIV/AIDS/STD, mother-child care, health in schools, adolescent health care, occupational health, water and sanitary facilities, IEC for changes in behavior, political dialog for health care reforms and social mobilization. The project carried out in collaboration with USAID, consists of the development of a National Center to create awareness on the importance of preventing HIV/AIDS/STD. The project is conducted with the involvement by NGOs and the Honduras Social Security Institute, in coordination with the Public Health Ministry. It awards sub-grants to NGOs implementing prevention programs aimed at high-risk groups: women in promiscuous sexual activity for pay, men who have intercourse with men – both young and adult men, and others (Garifuna origin) .
- COMVIDA - Honduras
A programme using both low-scale and mass communication to promote child and youth health. This project was commenced in the context of very high rates of HIV/AIDS and a social taboo on open discussion of sexual topics. The objective was to support community efforts to communicate different perspectives on sexual health issues. The major activities include school dramas, a festival of plays (all written and performed by youth), film shows, discussions, local radio and television programming, posters and special events. - Fundación Fomento en Salud (FFS) – Honduras
Fundación Fomento en Salud (FFS) is a non-profit organization based in Tegucigalpa. It was established with the purpose to promote the dialogue and move forward with corrective actions to health problems of the Honduran population. FFS is the linkage between implementing and cooperating sectors for strengthening technical, funding and managerial capabilities of public and private organizations. - Teatro la Fragua
Teatro La Fragua "The Forge Theatre", is a theatre group based in El Progreso, Honduras' third largest city. Its goal is "to forge a national identity by means of the people's own expression", and "awaken the creativity of the people with the help of theatre,to find solutions to current problems." Jack Warner, a Jesuit priest, has been its artistic director since he created it in 1979. The company consists of fourteen Hondurans who not only perform, but also do the maintenance and public relations. To address social issues and to achieve their mission of creating a Honduran national identity, Teatro La Fragua has adopted a strategy that includes: 1)staging of dramas often featuring Latin American writers; 2)performing religious plays,such as ¡El Evangelio En Vivo! (The Gospel Live!); and 3)dramatic adaptations of Honduran stories, myths and folklore.
